Congratulations Jenny

October 10th, stardate 2017: 3rd West Wickham Troop boldly set off on a torchlit quest to find the Holy Grail of Scouting, armed only the guile of Wise Doug Kenobi (Ben’s less well-known brother), a couple of bags of Haribos and an unsuspecting parent. Geoff’s trusty leadership team, telescopic staff, and flask of magical lemon and ginger elixir his constant companions.

When once, twice and thrice tallied, far did they travel from the sanctuary of the church of St. John, and long did they wait to cross in safety the deadly Mad Mile river, filled to overflowing with its steaming and snarling creatures; on their way to wreak havoc and destruction on an unsuspecting Croydon.

Climbing, ever climbing the precipitous escarpment of Spring Park Woods, the intrepid party eventually burst through the canopy, coming to the vast unenclosed tract of Shirley Heath that was allegedly the Fourth fairway of the mythical Shrublands golf course, now lost in the mist of time, and time of mist. Luckily, the mist gradually cleared, and there, stood before us… Our Holy Grail.

‘Tis true that Scout leaders can verily walk on water and sing a siren song that charms the very birds from the trees, as well as bandage a poorly finger and cook the best camp food ever, and so to discover Jen Sparrey not only possessed such skills and qualities, but was willing to share them with us mortals; truly, we had found our Grail, personified.

In honour of our new-found guiding-light, we gave thanks as an entire esprit de corps by saying the Scout promise, so that Jen could repeat the hallowed words, and be invested into such a fine, brave and fearless body as The Third West Wickham Scout Troop: Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah!

Having come through her initiation ceremony with flying colours, Jen was duly awarded the most prestigious scarf and woggle by Geoff, and the brave deed was duly recorded for posterity by Steve. Much was the feasting on Haribos and Elixir!

Don’t miss next week’s exciting episode folks, where the Troop goes on to… oh, I can’t spoil it by telling you what happens next; come along and join in the fun yourself!
